Langston University Welcomes New Coach to Women’s Basketball

Langston University has hired a new head coach for the women’s basketball program. While some may not recognize the name, others will find it very familiar.

Coach Vincent, who has been the men’s assistant coach for the past two seasons, is now stepping into the head coaching role for the Women’s Basketball Program.

Vincent explained his decision to take on the head coaching role, after a successful season. The men’s assistant coach, saying, “I love coaching the game, but it had to be the right place at the right time to make that move. After being here for two years, I realized how much we could win here and quickly…. I fell in love with the idea, and I was comfortable making the transition. I’ve enjoyed every single day since taking this job.”

Coach Vincent, a Connecticut native, graduated from Springfield College in Massachusetts with a degree in sports management.

In 2012, Vincent brought his expertise to the WNBA, where he helped coach the Connecticut Suns to the Eastern Conference Finals. With 16 years of coaching experience, he has worked with nine different programs before joining Langston as a Men’s Assistant Coach.

Coach Vincent served as the assistant coach under Head Coach Wright for the Langston Lions Men’s Basketball team during the 2022-2024 seasons. During that time, the team achieved an impressive 66 – 5 record, secured two conference championships, and competed in a national championship game.

Coach Wright expressed his gratitude for what Coach Vincent has done for the program, saying, “He was like another head coach… none of that would’ve happened without him and so I’m extremely grateful and thankful for his hard work and friendship and just what he poured into our players on a daily basis.”

Coach Wright highlighted several qualities that makes Coach Vincent a fit for the head coaching position, saying, “he cares about people, his players are a lot more important to him than just basketball. He’s very hard working. He’s driven. He will do whatever it takes to be successful; there’s no way that he’s not going to be able to elevate that program.”

Jordan Brown, a senior guard transfer from Northwestern State, shared how much she enjoyed her recruitment with Coach Vincent. “He was down-to-earth, and he told me about Langston and gave me a real secure vibe with him. He meant what he said and wasn’t all talk, you can tell he really cares about his players.”

Vincent will return six players from last season while adding twelve new recruits, including some Division-1 transfers.

Additionally, the program is making upgrades by renovating the locker room for the Lady Lions, which is a major step forward for the team. With Vincent leading our Lady Lions we should be expecting great things this season.
