OPINION: Spring Week 2025 a Success

Spring Week is one of the weeks college students look forward to every year. It is full of events, activities, laughter, and competition. Spring week events included: Easter Brunch/Egg hunt, LalaPaLUza day party, Taste of Langston, Sneaker ball, Wednesday on the hill, Turn up Thursday, Bratz meet barbie, Lu@nite hide n’ seek, and Mane line. This has been one of the most eventful Spring weeks Langston has had. Spring Weeks’ most popular events are the NPHC Yard Show & the Foam Party.

The NPHC Yard Show presented 5 Greek Organizations that stepped: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The Organizations put together some remarkable steps and strolls. The winners of the Yard show were determined through audience applause and received the prize of the Yardstick, a symbol for which organization will run the entire campus yard. The winners were AKAs.

The Foam Day Party brought many students out of their dorm, mainly because of the crawfish bowl served by the Omega Psi Phi Chapter. Lines for food were long, and students dressed in their bathing suit attire, having splash sessions while going through the foam while taking pictures.

Having a good balance with school events and schoolwork is crucial. All students are here for the same reason, to get a degree, but having fun is an addition to being a student, especially with how crammed school, homework, and other activities and work in organizations can be. How students get involved to help plan weekly events plays a big role in student involvement on campus. When students have ideas, they send their ideas to SGA presidents or members. This is how students yypically get involved in planning and organizing weekly activities.

Brooklyn Stampley, Secretary of Treasury for SGA (Student Government Association), said, “I think spring week plays an imperative roll to campus culture because it provides traditional events and is the last week before everyone goes home.” She feels it stores memories to look back on with friends before school ends and loved ones graduate. She advises students who want to make the most out of Spring Week to have fun, be safe, and, most importantly, handle business first and let the rest of campus life come last to your grades.

SGA members hope to improve upon spring week next year with a t-shirt giveaway. It’s something a lot of students look forward to on campus. Students love to take pictures and videos with their new shirts. They also hope to see less hates comments on fizz towards Greeks after the NPHC Step Show. With that being said, we appreciate the time and dedication the spring week organizers put in to make spring week possible. The students had a great time and enjoyed all the activities, and we can’t wait to see what next year’s spring week has in store.
