2025 Langston Sports Year in Review

From the football field to the basketball court, Langston University put together a memorable athletic year that ended with new success stories and achievements across every sport. With individual success stories and team success, here’s a review of the Lion’s best achievements and moments throughout the 2024-25 sports season.

Langston’s track and field team continued building momentum this season as Sophomore sprinter Marques Cameron made headlines this year by breaking two school records. At the Crimson & Gold Invitational, he set a new indoor 300-meter record with a time of 34.93 seconds, surpassing the previous mark set in 2008. Later in the season, Cameron broke the indoor 400-meter record with a 49.05 finish, edging out another long-standing record from 2008. After this, he broke the record again at the J.D Martin Invitational with a new time of 49.03. Cameron’s progression underscores his commitment to excellence and the success of Langston’s track and field program.

The women and men’s basketball teams continued to be a force in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The men’s team finished with a 26-8 record, going 17-7 in SAC play while making a strong postseason push as they ended the season with an appearance in the NAIA round of 16. For women’ s basketball, the Lady Lions put together a 31-3 overall record, including an undefeated 19-0 home record and a 22-2 mark in the SAC. The Lady Lions would also end their season with a trip to the NAIA’s National Tournament Round of 16–marking their trip in the national tournament since 2015, exactly 10 years later. Their last win of the season was against Dakota Wesleyan, as Langston overcame a halftime deficit and shut the door late, closing on a 6-0 run to win 79-86. Mikayla Woods led with 20 points, followed by Jordynn Conner with 18, and Koreea Kirksey with 11. The team shot 89% from the free-throw line this game, also a season high. “Once I took the job, I kind of had a vision and a plan and a culture that I wanted to set in place, and just to see it come to fruition with this group, I couldn’t be more happy for them,” said Coach Vincent.

In a fitting way to end the school year, Travis Martin, senior defensive back for the Langston football team, received an invite to the Seattle Seahawks’ rookie minicamp after turning heads at the 2025 HBCU Legacy Bowl. Martin’s final year at Langston caught scouts’ attention as he racked up 27 tackles (21 solo), four pass breakups, and two interceptions. Over his college career, he totaled 69 tackles and 10 interceptions, ending the year with a degree and All-SAC First Team Selection.

Langston’s 2024–2025 sports season was filled with success stories, individual breakouts, and team breakthroughs that redefined expectations. From record-setting sprints and national tournament appearances to an NFL minicamp invitation, Langston athletes continue to raise the bar and set the standard.
