ETHAN STEVENS AWARDED LUNAA SCHOLARSHIP

By Jordan Sinkfield

On Thursday March 7th, The LUNAA Scholarship was awarded to Ethan Stevens from Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Langston University is known as a giving community when it comes to the well-being of their students. Ethan Stevens is a Sophomore HYPR major who wants to pursue a career in Physical Therapy, and is this year’s Langston University National Alumni Association (LUNAA) Scholarship recipient.

“It’s a great experience,” Stevens said. “A lot of love from people like Mr. Brags and the Alumni committee helping us out and I’m really appreciative… I got very lucky.”

This award was given by Donzella Allen, LUNAA Guthrie chapter treasurer and Langston alumna. “When we were chartered, our mission and goal was to help students from Guthrie,” Allen said. “We know how it was when we were students. It was a struggle and it always seems like your senior year, you run out of funds, and you need money.”

One person with Stevens as he received his award was his academic advisor and family friend Jennifer Myrick. “He’s doing so well, he’s a good young man with good roots.”

Part of why Stevens received the award was his 3.8 GPA. “I just stayed focused, worked hard and didn’t get too distracted.”

This scholarship is particularly given to students who went to schools in Guthrie, maintained a 2.5 or above gpa and chose Langston to be their academic stomping grounds. “I’m glad that they decided to come to an HBCU where they know they can make it and we will help them,” Allen said.

Jordan Sinkfield is a sophomore broadcast journalism major.
