The main thing that has impacted me doing work for the Gazette is meeting new people. Meeting students and staff at Langston helped me learn about them and the University. Learning about the history of the Langston mascot, physical therapy, and more has been the best thing ever. I am so happy I have gotten the chance to learn more about the University I am a part of.

It was very important to tell the stories of people all over Langston. Whether it is negative or positive, the stories must be told; that way, history won’t repeat itself. Hearing that the stories that I wrote made an impact on someone’s life is the best feeling ever. I would always have a deep love and care or the Langston Gazette and the University. This isn’t a farewell this is just a see you later.

Throughout my duration as Staff Writer, my favorite story has been “What’s Happenin’ in the White House – A Brief History” from the Fall 2025 semester. This story challenged me in a way no other story has, from having only one interview to breaking down paywalls to obtain the history of our campus. I felt most satisfied completing this story because of these challenges and how deeply it made me dig into my research bag, so to speak.

My favorite interview from my work would be my conversation with on-campus counselor Demetria Robinson. This conversation was so enlightening, and I left this experience feeling refreshed and bonded with her (she would later become my Soror, funny how life works right?).  This story was also my first one coming off the break, and it allowed me to flex my journalistic skills for the first time in a long time and to feel proud of myself for using them in that conversation.

One Thing I Wish People Knew: The Gazette works for the community, not against it. Staff Writers conduct their story writing process in their own time, whether that be question prep, interviews, research, or actually writing the material. These students are taking time to create impactful pieces in hopes of highlighting and or improving this community. Every staff writer I have come across truly cares about the community of Langston and wants to see it flourish, and that is something in the forefront of their mind when conducting their work as a journalist.

My time as a writer for the Gazette has been an amazing learning experience for me. I got to speak with many different people and learn about their perspectives. Writing for the Gazette has really gotten me out of the shell I’ve spent a long time in. Many people have the impression that news is boring, but I would like them to know that there are a variety of fun stories that the gazette has to offer; it just takes wanting to read for yourself to find them. To the next Gazette team, although it might feel intimidating at first, writing these stories will become a fun time, especially if you’re writing a story you’re passionate about. Just remember not stay up until 3 a.m. finishing a story at the last minute like I did…
