MIDNIGHT MUNCHIES SETS UP SHOP

The Wesley Center hosted its first “Midnight Munchies” for Langston students to get a late-night meal while also pouring funds into the center and church.
Midnight Munchies was created by Diane “Mrs. D” Sims and Itale Fields. Their grand opening was on January 25th from 9 pm to 1 am at the Wesley Center. The event featured hot food items such as nachos, hot wings and baked potatoes. It also had snacks such as chips, honey buns and donuts. Everything on the menu currently costs less than 10 dollars.

Sims has been working on creating a late-night restaurant since last fall.

“I wrote up a proposal to lease out the old subway at Smittys last fall and even had the city of Langston’s support. The owner of the subway denied my proposal because it would interfere with the sales of their pizza and chicken.”

Since she serves as president of the senior leadership at the Wesley Center, her idea snuck its way into the Wesley.

“I just implemented my idea to the Wesley since we have a full kitchen to offer midnight food and snacks to students and raise funds for the center at the same time.”

Sims works with Itale Fields (Head of Operations for Midnight Munchies ). She is “all hands on deck with the operations of Midnight Munchies” according to Sims. Sims spoke greatly of her and Fields’ partnership.

“She comes up with the recipes, she preps and cooks all of our food at the Welsey, without her my ideas would not come to life, it will just be an idea because she dedicates all her time to what we plan.”

With starting a new business venture, the opening night had its ups and down. Sims said “I did get a lot of positive feedback, the only negative thing was we ran out of food. The crowd did not start to come in until 11pm, so maybe we will push the time back so our crew is not just sitting there when they could be doing homework.”

Currently, Sims expressed that she is still in the trial stage of Midnight Munchies and wants to collect for information for budgeting and hours.

“I have to collect more data and access my funding to continue with Midnight Munchies. We are currently working with a starting budget and it depends on how much we raise to keep operating, that will determine our next steps.”
