Wearing Your Mood: Dacia Hindsman’s Apparel Line

On a Thursday afternoon at Langston University, Dacia Hindsman set up her pop-up shop, carefully displaying sweatshirts, sweatpants, and sweatsuits on a clothing rack. Students quickly began to surround her booth, admiring the new PMO (Put Me On) Collection from Moodies Apparel – a brand that has quickly become a campus favorite. For Hindsman, a business major from Kansas City, Missouri, it’s not just about selling clothes; it’s about self-expression.

The story of Dacia’s clothing brand began with her younger sister, Lauren. In 2021, Hindsman was inspired by the drawings Lauren would create in her journals. Hindsman said, “I looked at it one day. And I was like, we need to start a clothing brand, and that’s how we started.”

Hindsman wanted to create a clothing brand that would allow people to wear their emotions fashionably. The ability to express yourself and your emotions through your clothing became the foundation of Moodies Apparel.

“I express myself through my clothing every day, so my brand has actually been able to do that by using emotions to express yourself … we always like to say: Moodies, you want to wear the mood that fits you. You do that by wearing our clothing,” Hindsman said.

The recent PMO (Put Me On) Collection marked a significant turning point for Hindsman’s business. ‘PMO Collection: Feel it. Own it. Wear it. In a world that feels like its shifting every second, your emotions are real–raw, powerful, and valid. The Limited Edition PMO Collection is designed for those navigating the highs and lows of today’s reality.’

Moodies Apparel uses colors to tell a story, with each shade representing a different emotion. Red, ‘Mad M’ symbolizes irrationality and madness, while green, ‘Party Pooper’ symbolizes a strong sense of disgust. Pink, ‘Pink Snake’ signifies embarrassment and awkwardness. Blue, ‘Clouded Moon’ represents sadness and sorrow, and purple, ‘Ahh’ embodies fear and distress. On the other hand, yellow, ‘Light Bulb’ symbolizes joy, happiness, and contentment, while orange, ‘Stressed’ conveys anxiety and nervousness.

The PMO collection was released on February 15th, and two pop-up shops were held on February 25th and February 26th. By the 26th, all 75 pieces were sold. Another collection is expected to be released in three weeks.

“Thank you, Langston, for supporting me, I always appreciate y’all, that’s the reason why I’m still doing this now.” Hindsman said.
