Jeremy Arballo

Editor-in-Chief and Staff Reporter

Jeremy Arballo is a sophomore broadcast journalism student from Guthrie, Oklahoma. He enjoys writing feature stories and taking photos. He finds that everyone has a compelling story and he likes to share these stories with others, along with his photos. He believes that photos say more than 1,000 words can and that they show the beauty of life. Outside of school, Jeremy enjoys playing retro and new video games, taking photos, and collecting cds. Christian Macklin is a rising sophomore broadcast Journalism major from Memphis Tennessee with a minor in psychology. Chrisitan is a first-generation college student; Christian will be the first in his family to graduate college from Langston University. Christian chose to write for the Gazette to be a voice of reason and to hear students’ stories, because nobody tells their story better than themselves. Christian believes that working for the Gazette will help him grow the necessary people skills and writing skills to be a journalist.  The work Christian does for the Gazette is his passion to help grow the journalism industry. Layla Nickerson

Features Editor and Staff Reporter

Layla Nickerson is a sophomore broadcast journalism major with a minor in marketing. Her “why” as a student reporter is to be a storyteller of culture and community, in hopes of featuring all the aspects that LU has to offer, whether they are niche or grand. She believes that the work of The Gazette grants power to the students of Dear Langston by giving them a voice, and because of this, she knew it had to be something she was a part of. Outside of her journalistic tendencies, Layla loves immersing herself in other forms of media like music, film, TV, and occasionally reading. Isaiah Price

Sports Editor and Staff Reporter

Isaiah price is a 4th generation Langston student who is involved in multiple student organizations on campus. He is a sophomore Broadcast Journalism major from Mansfield, Texas. He wants for the Gazette to present accurate and fair news for the Langston people and get the correct information out. He likes to cover sports and stories about people on campus, whether they’re a student leader or have a business. If you have a story to tell he wants to help you tell it. He thinks the work the Gazette does matters because it tells the truth and sheds light on things that usually aren’t talked about. His favorite hobbies are going to the gym and playing video games. Ciera Agee

Social Media Editor and Staff Writer

Ciera Agee is a junior broadcast journalism major. She chose to become a Gazette writer to continue her knowledge of print journalism. She enjoys writing feature and profile stories on Langston community members. As a reporter, it is their responsibility to keep their community safe and informed, helping them improve their lives daily, which makes the work very important. Ciera’s hobbies and interests outside of journalism include creating art, listening to music, and partying with friends. Anthony Henry

Polling Director and Staff Writer

Anthony Henry is a sophomore broadcast journalism major from Oklahoma City and he currently attends Langston University. He likes to do profile stories and cover special events in his community and on campus. He believes his work is important because of the First Amendment. Journalism is the only profession mentioned in the First Amendment and Anthony believes in the rights of the people and is willing to tell their stories. Anthony enjoys music so much; he listens to R&B, Jazz, and Hip-Hop. He also enjoys spending time with friends. Mikayla Suggs

Campus Question Coordinator and Staff Reporter

Mikayla Suggs is a sophomore broadcast journalism student. Mikayla wanted to write for the Gazette not only to get a hands on experience but because she just loves the art of writing. Mikayla enjoys writing feature stories the most. What the Gazette is doing here matters because everyone in Langston deserves to be heard and informed in their community. Daniel Thompson

Faculty Adviser

Daniel Thompson has served as the adviser to The Gazette since 2021. His role at the paper is to train reporters and editors, ensure the editorial team has all the tools they need to publish their stories, and act as a knowledge-resource throughout every stage of the news writing process. As a state employee, Thompson is bound by laws prohibiting state censorship of the free press. Therefore, he does not tell the student reporters what to write or what not to write, limiting his involvement to suggesting story ideas and warning students of legal and ethical issues as they arise.
