Jeremy Arballo is a sophomore broadcast journalism major. He likes to write about topics that are interesting, and he wanted to write for the Gazette as a creative outlet. Rebecca Gambor is a Senior Broadcast Journalism major from Colorado. She enjoys writing about businesses, on and off campus as well as profile stories. She writes for the Gazette because she knows the impact that the news can have in her community, and it’s important for people to stay informed. Anthony Henry

Anthony Henry is a staff reporter for the Langston University Gazette. He is also a sophomore broadcast journalism major. He covers all topics for the gazette and he feels it is very important that everyone’s stories and experiences gets told. He believes that what he does matters because journalism is the only profession mentioned in the first amendment. He believes in freedom of the press and storytelling. Christian Macklin is a sophomore broadcast journalism major from Memphis Tennessee. Macklin writes for the gazette to implement change and to be a voice for the student body and the community around me and the campus community. Christian wanted to cover the stories he has written to bring forth change and to be a light in other people’s lives. Christian thinks the work we do here matters because not many people have a voice of change and reason so Christian wants to be that mouth piece for others to feed off of, so that way they can be heard. Christian’s hobbies outside of the major are writing, watching tv and reading and hanging out with family and friends.

Layla Nickerson is a sophomore broadcast journalism major with a minor in marketing. Her “why” as a student reporter is to be a storyteller of culture and community, in hopes of featuring all the aspects that LU has to offer, whether they are niche or grand. She believes that the work of The Gazette grants power to the students of Dear Langston by giving them a voice, and because of this, she knew it had to be something she was a part of. Outside of her journalistic tendencies, Layla loves immersing herself in other forms of media like music, film, TV, and occasionally reading. Trentiss Parker is a junior majoring in broadcast journalism with aspirations of becoming a news reporter. Mr. Parker is drawn to journalism because of a passion for storytelling and giving a voice to others. They are eager to cover campus happenings, ensuring that all aspects receive the attention they deserve. Mr. Parker believes the work done at The Gazette is crucial for providing a platform for the campus community and highlighting important issues. Outside of journalism, Mr. Parker enjoys a variety of creative pursuits, including choreography, dancing, drawing, painting, and dressing up. My name is Edward Pettis, and I am a sophomore Broadcast Journalism major. I want to write for the gazette because, for one, I love to write, and two, I want to share my opinions on various topics that affect not just my school but the entire state of Oklahoma. For the Gazette I would like to cover sports topics because I really enjoy watching sports and writing about sports had always been a dream for me. I think the work we’re doing matters because I feel like as journalists, we live for this and there’s a lot going on campus. Price is a 4th-generation Langston student, and the reason he became a journalist is to one day own a broadcast journalism company and spread accurate and fair news. The work we do matters because Langston has a negative perspective from the outside world, and the reason he joined the Gazette was to spread a positive message about Langston. Daniel Thompson
Faculty Adviser
Daniel Thompson has served as the adviser to The Gazette since 2021. His role at the paper is to train reporters and editors, ensure the editorial team has all the tools they need to publish their stories, and act as a knowledge-resource throughout every stage of the news writing process. As a state employee, Thompson is bound by laws prohibiting state censorship of the free press. Therefore, he does not tell the student reporters what to write or what not to write, limiting his involvement to suggesting story ideas and warning students of legal and ethical issues as they arise.
