Out with the old and in with the new ! As the Langston Lions move into the spring semester and the new year, there are many different goals they wish to achieve or even habits they wish to break this time around.
Jasmine Denson, a junior broadcast journalism major, says her new year’s resolution is to simply, “Focus on myself and say no more often.” Denson also mentions how she would like to end her habit of procrastinating, stating that, “That era needs to be gone.”
Sophomores , Alayna Hidalgo, a family and consumer science major and Kelsi Amaya a criminal justice major both said they wish to have more discipline. Hidalgo adds, “Just start forming better habits in life.”
Another student, Joel Gibbs, a sophomore music education major also wants to start taking out more time to focus on himself. “My new year’s resolution is to not stretch myself so thinly. I have come into contact with a bunch of different people over these last couple of months that I’ve been spending at Langston, and my brain has just been all over the place.” Gibbs continues to say, “I haven’t been having the time to focus on myself and my goals.”
On the other hand, Nathanael Mahoney, also a student at Langston University, stated his new year resolution is to get closer to God. “I would love to have a better relationship with my lord and heavenly father.” Mahoney goes on to say, “I am a christian but I see myself stirring away from a lot more than what I need to.” Mahoney not only wants to spiritually be better but physically as well, stating that another goal of his this year is to get more fit.
Bree Fisher, a freshman business management major says her goal this year is to, “Be successful and don’t react when you don’t need to, sometimes things don’t need a reaction and don’t deserve the good energy you bring to the world.”
As we all reflect on the goals we didn’t meet last year, the spring semester calls for a fresh start for everyone to break old habits that you’ve never broke before . Meet new people and explore new memories and places with them or just try new things that are outside of your comfort zone. To all of the Langston Lions, happy new year and good luck in achieving everything you want this year.

Mikayla Suggs is a sophomore broadcast journalism student. Mikayla wanted to write for the Gazette not only to get a hands on experience but because she just loves the art of writing. Mikayla enjoys writing feature stories the most. What the Gazette is doing here matters because everyone in Langston deserves to be heard and informed in their community.
